FROM WAILEA (MAUI), HAWAII Walk on Golf Course WAILEA, Maui, Jan 3 - After exploring the Elua Condo grounds, I went on outside to check out the neighborhood.
This is the entrance to the Elua Condo guardhouse.
Right across the street, is this pretty golf course. Hidden in the clouds above it is the 10,000-foot Haleakala Crater.
Everywhere I walked around the golf course and the immediate neighborhood around the Elua Condos, I smelled money. The homes that line the golf course, for example, are worth about $7 million or more, as I found out later on, when I visited a real estate office at the "little Wailea shops." That's the name, by the way, by which the locals refer to a plaza that houses Tiffany's, Gucci, La Dolce Vita and dozens of other expensive shops that one normally finds at upscale malls on mainland.
This one is probably more expensive. A crew of gardeners were trimming the bushes around it as I walked by. A strange thought occurred to me. Perhaps that's what the neighborhood around the Bolt Hole (my former Australian place) will look like in 10 or 20 years, after a wave of money washes over it?
Meanwhile, back on the golf course...
The scenery was beautiful, even in the "rough." Views like this are a small consolation for flubbing a shot.
But the fairways were wide and looked easy to play. So it would take a duffer like myself to find the rough on a course like this.
But there were some sand traps that also looked inviting... J As I ended my
walk along the golf course, I thought of "Hawaii
Five-O", for some reason. Funny how one's mind works, isn't it? Connecting the dots in subconscious ways. So maybe in the same spirit I should name this travelogue "Hawaii Twenty-O-Seven?" J
