Going Underground...

URUBAMBA, Peru, June 2 - Last night and this morning I spent countless hours trying to connect to the Internet at our Sacred Valley base camp, the Runayay Hotel.  It is a new hotel and they have still not installed a high speed line to it.  So the hotel staff and all the guests have to share a single wireless card.  When I finally managed to install the software that runs it, I found out that it would not work. By then, I had befriended all hotel staff including the manager, a nice lady called Liz, originally from the Amazon part of Peru.

This morning, I told my shamanic friends that I would skip a mostly touristy trip to some festival in Ollantay Tambo.  Liz drove me into town of Urubamba where we tried to connect to the net at an Internet cafe.  After considerable effort, I managed to send an "SOS" message to all of my family and friends, telling them that I am "going underground" and into "radio silence" over the next 10 days, but not to worry since we have been promised protection and guidance by the best security in the world - the mountain spirits acting as the Creator's agents.

Then the hotel manager, Liz, and her cousin Carlos and I drove to Ollantay Tambo to rejoin out group for lunch (right shot).

Furthermore, there was no hot water when I tried to take a shower in our hotel room this morning.  So I took a cold shower.  I told my roommate afterward, the experience brought back unwelcome memories from the years I worked as a war correspondent in Bosnia.  Ii don't think I ever had a warm shower in that country.

Conversations with Spirits, Session #2

with Don Sebastian, an Altomesayok, holding the sacred space

MARAS, Peru, June 2, 2009 -  On our way to Maras this afternoon, we passed by some beautiful scenery, including spectacular views of the Sacred Valley.  Enjoy...

Then, just as we were approaching Maras, we passed an interesting scene, that could have depicted life in this part of the world thousands of years ago.  There was a man with a pair of oxen plowing a field (left).

After we came to Maras, around 3:30PM today, we first did another kallpai (offering of kintus to each other) and expressing love and support during this journey.  Don Santiago also said his prayers calling the Apus into another session with us.  Then we went into it, again in a completely dark room.

This celestial town hall meeting was longer and more meaty than yesterday's.  The biggest part of it focused on our upcoming journey.  The Apus spelled more details about the rites and ceremonies that we will need to go through, including the cleansing in a glacial lake and under a glacial waterfall.

At the end, there was only time for one question.  This writer asked it.  It had to do with what we can expect after Dec 21, 2012.
