FROM SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA Chapter 8: Rain AND Snow (!) Arrive After 144 Days! SCOTTSDALE, Mar 11, 2006 - "It never rains; it pours," they say. In Phoenix, one can also say now, "it never rains; it pours AND snows!" Take a look at the pictures of the mountaintops around my place that I took this afternoon...
After 144 days without any precipitation "at all, at all" [an inside Dublin joke between Karen and I J] - an all-time record - the rain finally came overnight. And then the temperatures dropped so precipitously that the mountaintops even around Phoenix showed a dusting of snow...
As a cashier told me at the local grocery store this afternoon, "this is only the third time in 35 years since I moved to Phoenix that I have seen the snow." So I figured I'd better drive around and take some pictures while it lasts. J SCOTTSDALE, Mar 12 - When we awoke the morning after, it was a beautiful cold wintry day. The skies were still partly overcast, but the rain and the snow had stopped.
The snow was still visible atop the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale that are the closest to my house at Grayhawk.
And the snow was also clearly visible on the Superstitions, east of Phoenix...
...and around Carefree, north of the city (above three photos).
